This was beautiful, and I love the little world you built here. The Palace, especially - I was wondering where Tomoyo was, and then you wrote of the Palace’s change as night came down, and it was like a lovely sunset mixed up in my head with the ending in the Hall from the first Harry Potter movie. XD;;; The various tales wound all through this were lovely – I’m a sucker for fairytales and folklore, I’ll easily admit – and it felt good to end on a point of healing.
(I’m still a little intrigued with the resolution, though? Fai is tried and punished (largely by himself) for what his mother did, and his own ignorance (that led to his twin’s death) and then subsequent foray into grief-stricken crazy. The race of dragons, on the other hand, mostly get away with theft, trickery, murder and attempted murder, and they end up with the shiny they coveted for so long and the ability to finally fly again, which will no doubt make them even more dangerous than they were before. Fai and Kurogane’s little world at the Shrine is content, but how is the larger world faring? >> You can tell me to shush; I rather fell in love with your world-building and ask silly questions.)
